In the case of 2 or more players having a tied score for 1st place at the end of the tournament, they will have a speed chess match to determine the one true Western Massachusetts/ Connecticut Valley Chess Champion, and split the cash prize!

Format:

4 rounds of game in 5 minutes with no delay.

4R/ G5/0

The 1st player with 2 and ½ points gets the title, $150 cash bonus, and the revolving trophy! Runner up gets $50.

 

Armageddon final

In the case of a 2 – 2 tie, there will be one final playoff game of 5 minutes, no delay! The rule is, that white MUST WIN to obtain the point. If black DRAWS, he/ she wins. Color is decided by bid. Both players write their color of choice on paper, and hand them to the TD. If they picked the same color pieces, they each write a number equaling minutes to bid, and hand them to the TD, the player who wins the bid of giving up the most time off the clock, wins the color matching their bid.If they pick opposite colors, no bidding is necessary, as they will play those colors.
