REGISTRATION
Online Registration Open Until: Sunday, September 27 at 6:00 pm
Onsite Registration: 6:00–6:15 pm
Entry fee for Mechanics' Institute Members: $25 (Play-up fee: $10)
Entry fee for Non-Members: $30 (Play-up fee: $15)
Late fee: $10
$5 admin fee for all cancellations & refunds.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Format: Swiss System
Total Rounds: 7
Time Control: G/3+2 (3 minutes with 2-second increment)
Sections: 1800+, Under 1800

Round Schedule (September 27):
Round 1: 6:30 pm — remaining rounds on a rolling schedule

Play-up rule:
Players must have a 1600 USCF regular supplemental or actual rating to play up to the 1800+ section.
Pairings are based on the September 2026 regular supplemental US Chess rating.

PRIZE FUND
Total Prize Fund: $400 (based on 40 paid entries)

1800+ Section: 1st $125 | 2nd $75 | 3rd $50
Under 1800 Section: 1st $75 | 2nd $50 | 3rd $25

Prize checks processed within 2–3 weeks. Per IRS regulations, anyone receiving $2000+ in cumulative prizes during a calendar year must complete a W-9.

ELIGIBILITY
Players must have a current US Chess Federation membership valid through the last day of the tournament.

TOURNAMENT RULES
Forfeit time: 3 minutes.
Clocks provided and set up by the club.
Games are US Chess and FIDE blitz rated. Modified FIDE rules apply.

SICK POLICY
The Mechanics' Institute Chess Club asks that any player who is feeling unwell withdraw from the tournament to help protect the health of others. Players who withdraw due to illness before the start will receive a full refund as a credit to their Jumbula account.
