2026-27 CalChess Girls & Boys Rating Level Championship

Join the CalChess Girls & Boys Rating Level Championship! This championship is dedicated for K-12 players striving to shine in a rating-based competitive field. • Online registration closes at 12:00 a.m. the day of the tournament, or when maximum capacity is reached.
• Onsite registration is subject to availability ($49 additional fee incurred).
• Late fees applied starting September 20 or when reaching capacity.

Sections

• Girls will be placed into one of the three sections based on September USChess Published Supplement Rating (i.e., rating as of Aug. 19):
  • K-12 Beginner (u400)
  • K-12 Intermediate (u600)
  • K-12 Jr Varsity (400-799)
  • K-12 Champ (800+)
• Boys will be placed into one of the three sections based on September USChess Published Supplement Rating (i.e., rating as of Aug. 19):
  • K-12 Beginner (u400)
  • K-12 Intermediate (u600)
  • K-12 Jr Varsity (600-1199)
  • K-12 Champ (1200+)
• A player may pay to play up one higher section, double play up is NOT allowed.
• Players must be within 300 points of the rating cutoff to play up.
  (Note: The rating used to determine if a player may play up is their September USChess Published Supplement Rating)

• ½-point bye is available for one round, except for the last round (Byes must be requested at least 30 min before that round's start).
• 0-point byes are available for any round.
• If you request more than one bye, we will give you a ½-point for the latest round possible except for the last round (0-point byes for all other rounds).

Awards

• Personal Trophies to all players with a winning record.
  • One trophy per player per section.
  • Trophy sizes vary based on standings.
• Medals to all other players.
• Team Trophies to all of the following with two or more players in all sections combined:
  • Clubs
  • Schools
• A player who withdraws during the tournament is not eligible for awards.

Fees

• Entry fee: $79
• Play up fee: +$33
• Discount for BayAreaChess Basic/Premium Members (More Info).
• Late fees, starting:
  • Sep. 20: +$13
  • Sep. 22: +$25
  • Sep. 24: +$37
• Onsite fee: +$49
• BayAreaChess Membership discounts are NOT redeemable for late and onsite fees.

Withdrawals

• Withdrawals are eligible for a partial refund, subject to the following deductions:
  • until Sep. 19, 7% processing fee.
  • from Sep. 20 to Sep. 21, $13 withdrawal fee + 7% processing fee.
  • from Sep. 22 to Sep. 23, $25 withdrawal fee + 7% processing fee.
  • from Sep. 24 onward, NO REFUND will be issued.
• Only withdrawals made before or on Sep. 23 are eligible for refund.

Other requirements

• USCF membership must be active.
