2025 New Year Chess Festival

Another edition of our New Year Chess Festival Returns! Join us on January 11th for a fantastic day of chess. There are multiple events all put together into one day. Register for what suits you best and enjoy a kick-off to the 2025 chess schedule. This can also be a warm-up for the following weekend's Michigan Class Championships. All USCF-rated events will be reported by Sunday night.

Advanced Swiss - 1600+ USCF
Our longest day and our most intense section! Join an elite event for club and master level players. Four rounds of chess across the whole day. 
Rounds: 4
Time Control: G/50; d10
Entry Fee: $50 ($40 for GRCC Members)
Schedule: Round 1 - 9:30AM, Round 2 12:15PM, Round 3 2:45PM, Round 4 5:00PM
Prize Fund (b/15): 1st Place - $250
Memberships: Active USCF Membership Required

Regular Swiss - U1600 USCF
A shorter version of our advanced swiss is open to all players under 1600 USCF! 
Rounds: 4
Time Control: G/30;d10
Entry Fee: $50 ($40 for GRCC Members)
Schedule: Rounds - 10:00AM, 11:30AM, 1:30PM, 2:45PM
Prize Fund (b/20): 1st Place - $200, 2nd Place - $100

New Year Junior Open
An unrated Junior Tournament for our scholastic players! Must be under 17 to play!
Rounds: 4
Time Control: No clock unless required by TD for timeliness
Entry Fee: $20
Schedule: Rounds 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 2:00
Prizes (b/15): 1st Place Trophy

Junior Blitz Tournament
An unrated blitz tournament was held for Junior players. A fast-paced thrill in chess. Games are played at G/3+2 minute time control. We must have 6 players registered to play. 
Rounds: 5
Time Control: G/3+2 (3 minutes to start with 2 seconds added for each move)
Entry Fee: $15
Schedule: Rounds begin at 2:15 and go until done. (1 hour long expected)
Prizes: The winner gets 50% of entrance fees.
