Early Bird Information for the

2024-25 Virginia Scholastic & College Chess Championships

Friday Night, Saturday and Sunday, March 7th - 9th, 2025

Tournament Location: Monticello High School, Charlottesville, VA

Hotel Information: Coming in November

There are THREE (3) TOURNAMENTS:

  1. Friday Night Blitz: Friday, March 7th, at 6:30 PM. This is an optional event.
    -- Two Scholastics Sections: K-5 and K-12
    -- College Section
    -- New for 2025: Parents & Friends Blitz!
  2. Main Event—2025 VA State Scholastic & College Championships: Saturday & Sunday, March 8th and 9th. 
    Players can choose to compete in one of 9 Sections:
    + K-3 Championship or K3 Under 600
    + K-5 Championship or K5 Under 1000
    + K-8 Championship or K8 Under 1200
    + K-12 Championship or K-12 Under 1400
    + College (open only to players who have graduated high school and are attending college)
  3. 4-Round Parents and Friends (P&F) Tournament with 2 rounds on Saturday, 2 rounds on Sunday.

Registration Information: Registration will open Nov 15, 2024, at https://www.vachess.org.

Team Rooms: We anticipate about 15-20 classrooms being available for use as Team Rooms. These room are for use by teams with 10 or more players. Teams with more than 20 players should request at least two rooms. Small teams should reach out to other small teams to make a “group” reservation for a team room. Reservations for Team Rooms will open on November 15th via the Tournament Web Site.

Chess Stuff:
        -- Chess notation is required in all sections except K-3 Championship, K-3 Under 600 and K-5 Under 1000, so practice now! Notation is not required for the Blitz event.
        -- US Chess Federation membership is required for all events. Games in all sections of this tournament are rated by the US Chess Federation.
        -- We provide chess sets and chess score sheets for recording the moves during your game but you may use your own Scorebook or authorized Electronic Notation Device.
        -- You must provide your own Clock, pen/pencil.
