A set of formulas was determined earlier this year by the US Chess Ratings Committee to convert FIDE ratings based on the recent changes to the FIDE rating scale to US Chess ratings. A mistake in these formulas was discovered, and the error has now been fixed. The corrected formulas are as follows:
General conversion:
USChess = -1073 + 1.5667*FIDE if FIDE <= 2000
USChess = 20 + 1.02*FIDE if FIDE > 2000
Youth conversion:
USChess = -453 + 1.2667*FIDE if FIDE <= 2000
USChess = 80 + 1.0*FIDE if FIDE > 2000
These formulas will be used going forward, and also applied retroactively to March 1, 2024. They will also be included in the US Chess Rating system specifications available on the US Chess website.
Below is a graph showing the corrected conversion from the revised FIDE ratings to USChess ratings, separately for general players and specifically for youth (under 18 y/o) players. |
