San Jose Hackers Recognized as U.S. Amateur Team West Champs

The “San Jose Hackers” are now recognized as the 2018 U.S. Amateur Team West Champions (on tiebreak over the “Fire Breathing Duckies” and “We Checked with Queen….we will Rook You”). This follows the resolution of an ethics complaint about a different team that was submitted to US Chess. Congratulations to the Hackers: IM Kostya Kavutskiy, Ivan Ke, Balaji Daggupati, and Sean Hayes. The San Jose Hackers are also a PRO Chess League team, which popular twitter and streaming personality Kavutskiy is a part of, as well as NM Ke.   The Hackers will be the official West representative in the 2018 U.S. Amateur Team playoff, which was delayed to process the ethics complaint. Other contending teams include "Carnegie Mellon" from the East, "Wisconsin Chess Academy" from the North and "Moon's Baboons" from the South. The playoff to determine the U.S. Amateur Team national champion will be scheduled shortly.   This page will be updated with details as soon as available.
