US Chess Seeks Assistant Editor in Publications Department The US Chess Federation is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Editor.   Applicants must have:
  1. A bachelor’s degree or higher (a degree in Journalism or English preferred),
  2. A fundamental understanding of journalism and editing practices,
  3. Experience with a variety of editorial areas, including writing, editing, interviewing, and proofreading in digital and print formats,
  4.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and the ability to learn new software programs such as Quark and ChessBase,
  5. Ability to read chess notation,
  6. Familiarity with U.S. chess culture (especially rated tournament play),
  7. Ability to interact positively with US Chess members, staff, management,  advertisers, and writers,
  8. Strong time management skills with an ability to work independently.
This is a full-time position with flexible hours but focused around Central Standard Time.  It is expected that this will be a telecommute position, but an applicant local to Crossville, Tennessee can work in our office. The Assistant Editor works under the direct supervision of the Director of Publications and will be responsible for assisting in the production of all US Chess print publications.  Examples include Chess Life  and Chess Life Kids,   as well as Tournament Life Newsletters, Tournament Programs, US Chess Governance Materials, Internal Advertising, and Internal Documents.
