Susan Polgar Foundation Open for Boys & Girls: Feb 27-28

HeadersSPI Hundreds of children set to compete in California’s most prestigious youth chess tournament! WHAT:  The annual Susan Polgar National Open Championship for Girls and Boys was created in 2006 and is sponsored by the SPF to give more opportunities to young chess players in the United States. WHO:       The Susan Polgar Foundation, Inc. was established by Grandmaster SusanPolgar, a Hungarian-American chess player – the Winner of 4 Women’s World Chess Championships, 10 Olympic Medals, and the first woman in history to break the gender barrier in chess. She beat the odds back in 1986 by being the first ever female player to qualify to compete in the Men’s World Chess Championship. Torres Chess & Music Academy, founded in 2005, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization which has brought world class learning opportunities to California’s most talented young chess minds. WHEN:    February 27 – 28, 2016 WHERE: San Mateo Event Center 1346 Saratoga Drive San Mateo, CA 94403 WHY:      Young players of all strengths are invited to participate in a prestigious chess   tournament with children from around the United States. The top player of each championship section in the SPFNO will be awarded:
  • Qualifications for the Prominent Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls (Girls sections only).
  • Qualifications for the 2016 FIDE World Youth Chess Championship.
  • As well as $100,000 in prizes and scholarships to Webster University (U16/18 sections).
