Players Qualify For World Youth

Contact: Jerry Nash FIDE Youth Events Click here to show email address Cell: 931-787-2756 (CROSSVILLE, TN) The United States Chess Federation is pleased to announce that 112 players have qualified by rating to participate in the 2017 World Youth Chess Championships to be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, September 16-26.  These students earned this honor by achieving the highest peak post tournament rating according to the regulations and the US Chess March Ratings Supplement.  Additionally, players may qualify as Personal Rights (PR) by winning a medal at the previous World Youth or if they achieve a Gold medal at the 2017 Pan American Youth Chess Championship. Participants may also qualify by winning the first-place trophy in a Championship section of the National Elementary Championship, the National Junior High Championship, or the National High School Championship and by achieving top spots at other designated national scholastic events such as the Denker Tournament of High School Champions, the Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions, the National Girl’s Tournament of Champions, the All-Girls National Championship, and the U.S. Girls Championship. The top players by rating in each age category are considered the United States Official Representatives by FIDE, the World Chess Federation, but all players compete in the event as part of the US delegation.  If an Official Representative in an age category declines to attend, then the highest rated player (according to the peak post tournament rating in the 12 months prior to the 2017 March Supplement) in that category who is registered with the US Chess Office by the deadline announced in the registration information will be considered the Official U.S. Representative. Details concerning the 2017 World Youth tournament are currently found at the organizers’ website - http://wyccuruguay2017.com/. Players should contact Jerry Nash (Click here to show email address) as soon as possible to confirm their participation and to receive registration information. The FIDE World Youth is an open tournament and any US Chess member who meets the age requirement for an age group may play. The age/gender categories for the World Cadets include Open and Girls – Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18. Players must register for the tournament through US Chess. The due date for players to register in order to be considered as Official Representatives or Personal Rights players is included in the registration information. A player’s age for this tournament is his/her age as of January 1, 2017.  Only the Official U.S. Representatives and Personal Rights players from the previous World Youth and Pan American Youth are eligible to receive financial support from US Chess.  The link to the US Chess invitation requirements is: http://www.uschess.org/content/view/7865/131/. The United States Chess Federation (USCF) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting chess in the United States.
