Contact: Jerry Nash FIDE Youth Events Click here to show email address Cell: 931-787-2756 (CROSSVILLE, TN)  The United States Chess Federation is pleased to announce that 101 players have qualified by rating to participate in the 2016 World Youth Chess Championships to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, September 20 – October 4, 2016.  These students earned this honor by achieving a peak post tournament rating according to the USCF’s March Ratings Supplement.  Additionally, players qualified as Personal Rights (PR) by winning a medal at the previous World Youth or if they achieve a Gold medal at the 2016 Pan American Youth Chess Championship. Participants may also qualify by winning the first place trophy in a Championship section of the National Elementary Championship, the National Junior High Championship, or the National High School Championship and by achieving top spots at other designated national scholastic events such as the Denker Tournament of High School Champions, the Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions, the National Girls Invitational Tournament, the All-Girls National Championship, and the U.S. Girls Championship. The top players by rating in each age category are considered the United States Official Representatives by FIDE, the World Chess Federation, but all players compete in the event as part of the US delegation.  Details concerning the 2016 World Youth tournament are currently found at http://www.fide.com/images/stories/FIDE_Calendar_2016/Invitation_for_FIDE_World_Youth_U14_U16_U18_Championships_2016_in_Khanty-Mansiysk.pdf. All players should contact Jerry Nash by 4 PM CST on May 24th to confirm their participation and to receive additional registration information. The FIDE World Youth is an open tournament and any US Chess member who meets the age requirement for an age group may play. Starting in 2016 the World Youth includes players in the U14, U16, and U18 age groups. The World Cadets, for players in the U8, U10, and U12 age groups, is a separate event scheduled for Batumi, Georgia - https://new.uschess.org/news/players-qualify-for-2016-world-cadets/. Players must register for the tournament through US Chess.  A player’s age for this tournament is his/her age as of January 1, 2016.  Only the Official U.S. Representatives and Personal Rights players from the previous World Youth and Pan American Youth are eligible to receive financial support from US Chess.  The link to the US Chess invitation requirements is: http://www.uschess.org/content/view/7865/131/. The United States Chess Federation (USCF) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting chess in the United States. Founded in 1939, US Chess serves as the governing body for chess in the United States and is now headquartered in Crossville, Tennessee. US Chess is devoted to extending the role of chess in American society. It promotes the study and knowledge of the game of chess, for its own sake as an art and enjoyment, and as a means for the improvement of society.
