World Championship challenger Fabiano Caruana was the first person to take the clear lead at the Sinquefield Cup today with a win over Sergey Karjakin. Karjakin was in a difficult position when 27…f6 caused immediate catastrophe after 28. Rd1!
On “Sinquefield” Saturday at 2 PM ET, Caruana faces Magnus Carlsen in a much anticipated prelude to their World Championship match.
Furthering the drama, a win for Fabiano would move him over Magnus to the #1 player in the World.
Tomorrow @MagnusCarlsen and @FabianoCaruana play each other in the #SinquefieldCup in a preview of November’s World Championship. Adding extra drama to the game, if Caruana wins he will take the number one ranking from Carlsen for the first time in seven years!
