The 2019 National Elementary Championship is Underway!

We’re off and running at the 2019 National Elementary (K-6) Championship! All thirteen sections have begun, and the race for titles and trophies is well under way. One of the largest hotels in the country, the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center is among a select few sites that can handle a tournament of this magnitude. There are an unofficial 2252 players between all sections, and CLO will have an official count as soon as one is available. While the first round has just begun, there has been plenty to do for players, friends and parents in Nashville. Grandmaster Mackenzie Molner and WGM Jennifer Shahade, Director of Women’s Programs for US Chess, gave a Tandem Simul this morning in the Ryman Exhibition Hall C2.

This afternoon Molner and Shahade will be playing blitz against all comers in the Ryman Exhibition Hall C2. Shahade takes the early shift, from 2pm-4pm, while Molner  will spell her at 4pm for two more hours of blitz action. Molner will be playing Saturday afternoon from 2:30pm-4:30pm, and Shahade will wrap the day’s blitz exhibition from 4:30pm-6:30pm.

US Chess Board Member and National Master Ryan Velez presented his “My First Tournament Seminar” this morning at 9:30 in the Presidential Boardroom A. This is the first of Velez’ three seminars. Saturday he presents “The Benefit of Chess as an Educational Tool” at 10am, and he’ll speak Sunday on “Preparing for International Youth Events,” also at 10am. Both seminars are in the Presidential Boardroom A. Molner will also be giving a lecture, with time for questions and answers, from 11:30am-1pm Saturday in the Presidential Boardroom A. The Girls Club is back for the 2019  Elementary Championship, and girls and their parents can come to Ryman Studio A/B for game analysis, blitz games, and more. There will be special appearances by WGM Katerina Nemcova, WGM Jennifer Shahade, WIM Carolina Blanco, and Krista and Arthru Alton. Our livestream begins with round five on Saturday night, and continues on Sunday for the final two rounds. WGM Katerina Nemcova and IM Eric Rosen will be on-hand, analyzing the action from the K-6, K-5, and K-3, and broadcasting to the world on the US Chess Twitch channel – twitch.tv/uschess. You can watch the broadcast on-site live by going to Presidential Boardroom B. CLO will be providing updates as the weekend progresses. You can also keep tabs on all the action on Twitter by using our hashtag #ElemChessChamps.
