Chennareddy on a Perfect 7-0 in World Cadet as Team USA Eyes Medals

Yuvraj Chennareddy has a perfect 7-0 score in the Under 8 Open section of the World Cadet Championships, underway in Santiago, Spain (November 4-15). Yuvraj was the only 6-0 and defeated the only 5.5/6 player, Bogdan Golovchenko (Russia) in round seven. He is now leading the section by a full point. Chennareddy has been playing a marathon schedule as his last two games were over 100 moves.

Yuvraj plays the second seed tomorrow, Khumoyun Begmuratov (Uzbekistan, 1880, 6/7). Beyond, Yuvraj’s perfect score, the American squad has lots of medal chances.

In the Under 12 Open, Nico Chasin and Kirk Ghazarian both have 6/7 – Nico played a great game with Black against Sebastian Kostolansky (Slovakia 2323) in round seven.

Kirk also won, against Quoc Hy Nguyen (Vietnam 2117).

Jason Wang has 5.5/7.

In the Under 12 Girls, Rianne Ke, the first girl ever to win the Elementary Championships, has 5.5/7.

In the Girls Under 8, Evelyn Qiao has 5.5/7. Evelyn defeated fellow American Whitney Tse in round 7.

Evelyn is now half a point behind 5 girls tied for 1st place, while tournament top seed and US Chess Expert Rachael Li has 5/7.

In the Under 10 Open, Erick Zhao has 5.5/7 after winning a nice game in round seven.
