Newsflash: Irina Krush Advances to Round Two in Khanty

Grandmaster Irina Krush defeated IM Inna Gaponenko 2-0 in their rapid playoff match, giving Irina a ticket to the round of 32.

Irina will face reigning World Champion Wenjun Ju of China in round two of the 64-player knockout.

Sabina Foisor fought valiantly to force a playoff against Antoaneta Stefanova in her own match, but lost to the former Women’s World Champion in the rapid games. Look for more analysis of round one of the World Women’s Championship later today from Grandmaster Elshan Moradiabadi.
