NOTE ABOUT VENUE:
Instead of being at the Tysons Corner Westin where we used to have our tournaments, and instead of being at the Tysons Corner Hilton Garden Inn where we now have our Sunday tournaments, this tournament will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott Tysons McLean hotel on 1960 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean, VA 22102.
The Courtyard Marriott has a garage with free parking (and there may be some spots available in front of the hotel as well). The tournament will probably take place upstairs in the Fairfax Room unless the hotel later decides to move us to a different room.
Overview
Saturday, February 4th at 9:00 am
Three rounds; first round at 9 am, subsequent rounds occur as soon as possible
Format: quads (round robins divided into groups of four players)
Time control: Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second delay
Entry fee: $28 by Tuesday 1/31, $34 by Friday 2/3, $40 on the day of the tournament (on-site registration closes 15 minutes before round 1)
Masks are optional
Boards and pieces will be provided for all players, but we don’t have enough clocks for everyone (those who have clocks are welcome to bring them)
This tournament is USCF-rated
Prizes: the winner of each section will receive a medal

A quad is a four-person round robin section in which all participants play each other once (three rounds). Our quads are open to all scholastic players in grades K-12, and each quad will be divided based on rating rather than grade. The advantage of quads is that players get the chance to compete against opponents with close USCF ratings. The tournament director has discretion when determining quad seeding (for example, the TD may use a player's unpublished rating). Depending on the exact number of registrations, the bottom section may have five, six, or seven players, in which case that section will be paired as a Swiss tournament.
