"Choose Your Hour" Quick Tournament #2

Event Overview

The Big Picture

Your convenience is our top priority. We know that you are busy and scheduling chess tournaments is tough. That is why we are starting the "Choose Your Hour" Quick Tournament. These events are open to children and adults alike and will be held on a monthly basis.

This USCF-rated event is simple. There will be four chess.com tournaments, each with three rounds and a G/10+2 time control.

The starting times will be 3:30pm, 5:00pm, 6:30pm and 8:00pm (Central Time). You can register for any combination of these tournaments. Each tournament will last about an hour, with brief intermissions between tournaments.

There will be at least one rating-based section for every twenty players in each tournament. This means that you will likely not need to worry about playing people way above your playing strength. As much as possible, you will play people with somewhat similar ratings.

The entry fee starts at $5 per tournament and is fully refundable until seven days before the tournament.

For each three-round tournament (or section thereof), first place will receive a $40 Amazon gift card and a free subscription to the Limestonian Chronicle for the whole family ($18 value). Second place will receive a $10 Amazon gift card.

These prizes are based on twenty entries per tournament (or section). If a different number of players register, these prizes will be adjusted so that 50% of entry fees are awarded as Amazon gift cards.

No Zoom call will be required. However, our tournament director will be ready to assist you as needed and chess.com will be keeping a lookout for cheaters (i.e., if you use a chess engine or book for help, chess.com will likely close your account, we will find out and all of your games will be forfeited). Prizes will not be issued for at least one week after the event to make sure no one cheated.

The Limestonian Chronicle

You might have noticed that first place gets a free subscription to the Limestonian Chronicle. What even is the Limestonian Chronicle?

Officially, it is a journal of analysis and opinion. While there is a lot of analysis and opinion on a wide array of topics, there are also storiespoemseducational pieces and even an ongoing installment series. What it all sums up to is this: A place to go to read things that will surprise you, that will inform you, and that will inspire you. It is a place to find the things you want to read that you do not know about yet. It is written by ordinary people with unordinary interests, and it welcomes all of its readers to contribute content for everyone to enjoy. It is that monthly publication, that continuing stream of articles, that is ready to become your next go to place on the web and in your inbox.

Scholastic Tournament

We will also be holding a regular-rated tournament for K-12 scholastic players on the same day as these tournaments. It will be held from 11:00am-3:00pm, so it will not conflict with these quick tournaments. The time control is G/30;d0 and Amazon gift cards will be issued as prizes. The entry fee starts at only $10 (plus Eventbrite fees). For more information and to register, please visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/february-international-scholastic-swiss-tickets-502424714847

Ratings: These tournaments will affect your USCF Online Quick and Chess.com Rapid ratings. If there are multiple sections, you will be assigned to a section according to your USCF Online Quick rating as shown on the supplement for the month of the tournament. You must play in the section you are assigned. If you play in a lower section in a tournament than allowed, you will be ineligible from receiving prizes in that tournament.
