Event Overview

There will be four rounds in the Swiss System format – Game Time Control 45+5

Four sections – Active US Chess Federation membership and notation is required for 3 sections:

Open, U1000, U500  Unrated/Provisional players should register in the U500 section

Not Rated - Chess Federation membership will NOT be required for this section only. Notation will be strongly encouraged but not required, however clock rules will apply. This section is designed to help introduce and ease new players into tournament participation.

Registration opens on March 1. The early bird rate is $30 per player. After Saturday, May 7, registration goes to $40. Payments will be accepted electronically in advance through PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp and on the day of the event.

To register, players should send the following information: NAME, Federation ID#, desired section, and desired method of payment to the following email address: Click here to show email address. A response via email will include payment directions. In the event a player needs to withdraw from the event, please notify immediately via email.

Prizes - Open: The first-place winner will receive $200 and a plaque. Second place, $100, and third place, $50. Second and third winners will also receive medals. U1000, U500, and Not Rated: First-place winners will receive trophies. Second and third place winners will receive medals. Awards will be presented after the final round

Registration/check-in will be from 8 until 9 a.m. A welcome and briefing of rules meeting will be held at 9:15 a.m.

  • 1st round – 9:30
  • 2nd round – 11:30 a.m.
  • 3rd round – 1:30 p.m.
  • 4th round – 3:30 p.m.

Byes due to inability to pair – 1.0 for all Byes by request 0.5 for all (no requested byes in round 4). Please make bye request before the start of desired round.

Tiebreaks - two G/10 inc/5 quick games to be played at the end of the 4th round. In the event of a tie with three or four players, a single round robin of G/10 inc/5 will be played. In the event of a tie from the quick games, an Armegeddon match(es) of G/10 will be played at draw odds for black determined by bid. If necessary, tie break will be determined using the following system(s): 1. Modified Mean 2. Solkoff 3. Cumulative 4. Cumulative Opponent’s Score.

Players and accompanying family/coaches are encouraged to bring chairs for lounging; an outdoor patio will be available.

A skittles room will be available.

Concessions will be provided by the local Boy Scout troop (baked goods, chips, and other items)

Masks will be recommended and available as well as sanitizer.

Historical note: This tournament is named in recognition of the Bienville National Forest which includes most of Scott County including the tournament site. In turn, the forest is named for Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. a French colonial administrator in New France and was an early governor of French Louisiana.
