New Member Recruitment Pilot Program

The US Chess Federation (US Chess) Executive Board passed a motion “EB15-051” which invites all affiliates an opportunity to apply to participate in the US Chess “New Member Recruitment Pilot Program”. The goal is to attract new adult members to the US Chess but to also assist our affiliates to increase their club members. At the Executive Board meeting Friday, January 20, 2017 the board members agreed to run the program again for 15 months. If your affiliate participated in past “New Member Recruitment Pilot Programs” you will need to re-apply for this new one. The program will start March 1, 2017 and end May 31, 2018. Participating US Chess affiliates will have the opportunity to charge a $6 flat fee to adult (18 years of age and older) non-members of US Chess to play in approved US Chess rated events. Eligibility/Limitations:

  1. All US Chess affiliates may apply to participate in the pilot program. Participation is subject to approval by US Chess.
  2. The $6 flat fee rating charge is available only for approved US Chess rated events held by participating affiliates. Events must consist of no more than 4 rounds, and must not be considered a US Chess National Event nor a US Chess Grand Prix event.
  3. The $6 flat fee is a one-time only opportunity exclusively available to adult non-members of US Chess. Former or current members of US Chess are ineligible to participate.

Affiliates wanting to participate can use the sign-up form available in the TD/Affiliate Support Area when using your affiliate login – https://secure2.uschess.org/TD_Affil/TD_login.php. You can print off the agreement         form, fill it out and return it to: US Chess – Attn: Joan DuBois – Pilot Program, PO Box 3967, Crossville, TN 38557, before March 1, 2017. Email: Click here to show email address. Fax: 931-787-1200. Soon after your application is received you should be notified of acceptance. You can begin announcing the new membership as soon as you receive confirmation of participating. The program will end May 31, 2018. All games and memberships must be provided to US Chess no later than June 15, 2018. The ”TMPILOT” member would not receive any membership card; paper magazine; or online website rights – the only benefit – to try out one US Chess rated event. In the TD/Affiliate Support Area you will find special membership forms should you not be submitting your tournament report and memberships online. When submitting your tournament report and new membership(s), the name, address, phone, email and birthdate of the new member must be included or the membership(s) will not be accepted. If US Chess finds that an affiliate is not searching thoroughly and we are getting duplicates, a penalty will be imposed on the affiliate. (Penalty could be a $10 fee invoiced to the affiliate or expulsion from the pilot program.) We hope to hear from you soon so you can begin to offer the special membership and attract new adult members to your chess club!
